No shortage of surprises

First, BLACK TORCH returns from certain death, and now this manga gets an adaptation!

Admittedly, introducing the characters individually would last a hell of a lot longer than going off of the plot. While I did read it a while ago, the plot is really nothing more than “how can I get these college volleyball stars to get naked with the acting coach?”

It starts with Sota Tachibana’s big sister (heh) Kaoru talking him into becoming the acting coach of her volleyball team while also pulling double duty as the dorm manager of the team. Tough sell until he learns that a girl he has a crush on, Ayano Hasegawa (the same girl who’s tit is serving as a thinking cap on the cover of that first volume), is also on the team. The best way to describe Ayano is that if Sota was wishing to be with just her, then the monkey’s paw curled into a crooked middle finger.

The watermark is a symbol of the lack of quality control I’ve been using since 2023.

So, Tiberius, what does this aspect mean? He gets more than he bargained for? Congrats, reader, have a cookie. Don’t tell Cookie Monster.

He finds out the hard way that she’s best described as Slim Shady in the sense that she’ll f[clack]k anything with a face. Biology doesn’t stop her; in fact, it may even arouse her. The associated Wikipedia page even states that she’s pansexual and based on what I’ve seen in just the manga, that follows through. And I don’t want to dwell on her too much–there’s a bigger cast to cover–it’s as if she has a syndrome, that she needs to f[ding]k or she’ll go into withdrawal–sex addiction!! That’s it, the girl has sex addiction ⊙.☉! Based on the description of withdrawal symptoms from sex addiction specifically:

There was one scene where the teammates attempted to reduce her libido by way of a chastity belt, along with Sota’s but it went as well as a French Expedition to Russia.

Ridley Scott’s Britishness got in the way of a good film.

The rest of the team consists of Sanae Yamada, Sakura Asakura (what the tongue-twister?), Kyoka Teshigawara, and Julia Mackenzie, all of whom occupy a specific fetish, Kaoru included. Kaoru’s variant is forbidden fruit, i.e. incestuous thoughts and ideation. Much of the manga, she expresses jealousy at her teammates for milking him p[moo]sy first, to the point where they tease her tsundere ass about it. Is incest really an abnormality in animanga anymore? Look at what I’ve written over the years. If there is no incest, fans will shove it in. And it isn’t restricted to animanga either.

I can’t help but read this in a robotic voice.

Sanae Yamada could be seen as petite initially until she started putting on weight. So the mangaka alienated the Blue Archive fans and let the chubby chasers take their place (┬┬﹏┬┬)#. Something, something cunny… I kid, but I wouldn’t be surprised if someone felt that way. The fat phase is rather short-lived, though. Late manga, it’s said she drops the kilograms, but the latest chapter I recall reading was taking the piss out of subway groping in Japan a few years ago, so I’m definitely not caught up.

The victim of said-groping incident was Sakura Asakura, the bespectacled otaku:

Not that one. Not even bespectacled ╰(￣ω￣ｏ).

An otaku whose mannerisms and oddly elongated stature make for a social outcast. Weirdness aside, she’s no slouch on the volleyball team and her mates accept her as is.

Teshigawara was initially unhappy with her appearance, hopelessly wishing (and perhaps dreaming) that she had a larger bust. Not even subtle about it either, she padded her chest until she came to terms that she was a Flat is Justice Representative and cut her hair for the tomboy transformation. Give her a salami sausage and she can muscle in on Astolfo’s femboy territory considering what the internet did to his image.

Finally, there’s Julia, the tallest and bustiest of the lot and a variant of the stranger in a strange land trope that Japan uses so much. She also has basketball skills that certainly carry into her personal arc later on and…

…yeah, I’ll level with you, dear reader. My memories of the manga are so s[belch]t that I have to work on the Wikipedia page to get the gears turning. I found it on Google while looking for that MILF-sekai OVA.

Accidentally typing “like” instead of “love” brought me to Big Girls, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t surprised by what I was reading that day.

It’s extremely easy to pass by the series, point at the booba and then wander back into battle Shonen territory, that’s roughly the trajectory the series took this year once the adaptation came about. I don’t recall precisely when I put the series in my notes for discussion, but I do recall a 2023 post about eventually getting to the series back when it was fresh in my mind. Three years overdue, Tiberius, but at least I came back with the milk and cigarettes. That damn convenience store is so f[chirp]king huge. Still haven’t been to Costco yet as I lack the necessity to go… and Worse Excuses for $400, Zombie Alex Trebek.

This post may be one of the briefer ones I have. It’s a bit inaccurate to say that roughly every chapter is a sex comedy scene. The series is ripe with all that silliness, but it’s not 100% Haha Boobs. Even when it plays up the sex for laughs, it still explores different topics relating to the human condition, evidently buried beneath Amazonian boobs… Every single one of the teammates are atypical anatomically for a Japanese set piece and the road to confidence is a long and winding one. Even Sota takes umbrage with being called short, a reaction to which hasn’t been seen since Hiromu Arakawa’s Quarter Tin Wizardry.

The descriptions of the girls alone shows that roughly all of them have parts of their bodies that they’d love to change permanently, but in a rather body positive message, the girls all accept that short term change won’t be as satisfying as pure hard work, which I think is what the sports team set dressing is meant to represent. It’s a sex comedy harem with volleyball for flavor and something to say about sexuality, relationships, body dysmorphia, personal satisfaction among others. Seems like a reach for some who just want the hard truthful analysis of Boobs Everywhere, Also Volleyball, but the manga did well to highlight some of these things. I’ve grown to make extraordinarily dark jokes on account of my military experience, but there’s a time and a place for these things. You never wear pajamas to a wedding, and you never wear a three-piece tailcoat and stove pipe hat to buy groceries. From my memories, I can’t recall there ever being a pacing issue in the manga, or if there is one I don’t remember whatsoever.

All 12 episodes of the anime are on OceanVeil and other outlets, and the manga has eight volumes. I’m not so certain if it was one of the several series purged from MangaDex, but if it was, then its off to the races to find a manga hosting website where every click redirects me to a phishing site with Hot MILFs in my area.

Before I send you lot to find that pirate site and its four thousand bastard children, I should explain now that due to my current enrollment in Basic Leader Course as well as a short course for an IT certification slated for October, these posts may temporarily need to be moved to late Saturday/early Sunday morning. Fingers crossed, the regular schedule returns in October. And I can get to watching the anime as well.
